ARC Greenhouses: What We Grow
We grow herbs, greens and lettuces for chefs and local retail markets. Since we are a grower and not a distributor, we can respond to individual requirements. For example, if a chef wants stiffer thyme instead of new, lush thyme, we respond by picking that part of the plant, or, if a chef wants longer stems for a particular item, we do that. In this way, chefs get what they need. We also respond to the local markets. For example, a local market wanted to sell living basil plants of a certain size. It also had to be displayed to fit with a merchandising program. We did that. Chefs also ask for us to find a variety that has a particular flavor. We do that.

Fifteen years ago, when we started growing, we grew only one product. We now grow over 40 different plants and several different varieties of some plants. Deciding to grow a new plant takes much more than buying and planting some seeds and then waiting for the plants to be ready for harvest. We find it takes us between 6 and 12 months to learn how to efficiently grow a new crop. During the learning curve, we are supplying customers with only high quality produce. Therefore, each new product requires a sizable investment.

The following list includes some of the crops we now grow. The list includes a picture and a brief description. We hope the listing is helpful to the novice in identifying and using what we grow and the knowledgeable chef or home cook enjoys looking at the pictures of what we are growing. There is another section of the site that lists what we sell.

The list is organized in three sections

( Culinary Herbs, Salad Greens and Lettuces ).
